rosacea

Redness, itching, and blemishes, rosacea is a chronic skin condition that affects millions of people worldwide but is still not talked about enough.

It is not a new blush and no, I have not been sunbathing without protection, I simply suffer from rosacea!
My skin is hypersensitive, I’m always a little red on some parts of my face, and every new product I test might trigger an unwanted reaction. (This doesn’t stop me from testing many of them!)
I get facial flushing, the so-called “flushing,” and even though I was born and raised near the sea, I have to be careful in the sun. Sun exposure is deleterious to my skin!
At certain times my face is filled with blemishes and papules, my skin barrier is not the best.
Rosacea and I have lived together since I was just a teenager, and it made me despair, but if today I am passionate about beauty and know so much about skincare, it is also because of her.

But exactly what is rosacea?

Rosacea, or rosacea, is a chronic inflammation of the skin that occurs mainly on certain areas of the face. The exact causes of rosacea are not fully known, but there is definitely a genetic predisposition.

The first symptoms occur in adolescence, you begin to become sensitive to certain foods, particularly spicy foods, coffee, and chocolate. But it is especially stress, hormonal changes, the sun and the wrong cosmetics that aggravate skin irritation.

I confess that some times there are no particular reasons, yet my face literally goes up in flames.

Not all skins are the same

Rosacea has many different aspects and many different symptoms, some more severe than others.
Here are what they are:

  • Redness: The cheeks, nose, forehead and chin may be constantly reddened and inflamed. In some cases the skin becomes thicker and pores are very visible.
  • Visible vascularity: Facial veins and capillaries may become more prominent, creating an unsightly effect.
  • Pustules and papules: When rosacea reaches more advanced stages, the cheeks and nose may become covered with papules and small pustules. This condition is not perennial, but during some periods the inflammation is very acute.
  • Burning or itching sensations: One of the most annoying symptoms is definitely that of “flushing,” an intense burning sensation that generally takes over the neck and face.
  • Red and irritated eyes: In some cases, rosacea can also involve the eyes, causing dryness, redness and irritation. In very rare cases, it can lead to the predisposition of chalazia.

How is rosacea treated? Are there any remedies?

Spoiler: there is no cure for rosacea, and don’t believe anyone who will offer you miracle cures. But we can control the symptoms and reduce the rashes. The watchword is definitely “delicacy.”

First, you should use gentle cleansers specially formulated for sensitive skin. The Cleanser Essential Cleanser , with its Aloe Vera-based formulation, cleanses the face without attacking the skin barrier, limiting the phenomenon of flushing.

To reduce inflammation, azelaic acid and niacinamide can be good allies for your skin care. In more severe cases, your dermatologist may also prescribe metronidazole gels for topical use.

Another extremely powerful ingredient when we talk about rosacea is the Rosa Alpina,
a plant that grows wild in the mountainous regions of the Alps.
Rich in vitamin C, antioxidants and essential fatty acids, it offers numerous benefits to our skin.
First, Rosa Alpina extracts are known for their anti-inflammatory properties, which can help reduce the inflammation and redness associated with rosacea. Soothing and calming properties manage to keep rashes under control, reducing redness and irritation.
In addition, alpine rose oil is rich in essential fatty acids that help keep the skin hydrated and well nourished, thus reducing dryness and irritation.

The Skean line is formulated with purified organic alpine rose leaf extract, Essential Serum e Essential Cream are the basic steps to take care of your sensitive skin.

P.S. if you suffer from rosacea, always seek advice from your dermatologist before introducing a new skincare product!

Finally, the last tips as a beauty addict (who suffers from rosacea) are as follows:
Look for the right dermatologist for you, in very severe cases they will prescribe oral antibiotics that will help you a lot.
If you can’t get the problem under control with cosmetic products, laser and pulsed light can help make the capillaries less visible. The skin will look tighter and redness will decrease.
I know it’s not always easy, but try to identify and avoid your “triggers,” all the external agents that make your rosacea worse, such as alcohol, coffee, and sun exposure.
Finally, if you suffer from this issue, you are not alone. Never forget that!
