Your skin needs care, attention and pampering. I’m sure you too have bought a product that is not suitable for your needs and exfoliated your skin more than you should. Here is a list of skincare mistakes to avoid in this new year.
Whether you do skincare for “duty” or for pure pleasure and act of self-love, the cosmetics industry has made great strides in recent years. Creams, serums, scrubs and so many steps, what a mess!
If you want healthier skin in 2024, you should definitely avoid these four skincare mistakes.
Don’t wear sunscreen
Maybe you do skincare perfectly and then don’t protect your skin with sunscreen. Is there a worse mistake?
Even in winter, even if it is cloudy and even if we go to the office. The sun and blue lights (those from computers and smartphones) are the main cause of premature skin aging and other far more serious diseases.
Seal your skincare with a good protective cream every morning.
Do not wash hands before doing skincare
The sneakiest of skincare mistakes, the one that catches you off guard.
You get home, run to the bathroom and get your makeup remover right away. That’s all well and good, but if you don’t wash your hands and remove any rings, you risk bringing all the microbes and bacteria you have on your hands onto your face.
Before you start cleansing your face, wash your hands thoroughly.
Beauty addict tip: disinfect your phone with special wipes at least once a day, we don’t want to skincare and rest that germ den on your face!
Sleeping with makeup
You do skincare in the morning, you’re super careful about everything, and then maybe, a couple of times a week, you fall asleep on the couch without removing your makeup. This is absolutely the mistake we must avoid. Sleeping with makeup on can clog pores, inflame the skin barrier, dry out the skin, and aggravate acne (if we suffer from it).
Use a gentle cleanser and if you really get too sleepy and can’t do the full skincare, go to sleep. One evening will not ruin your efforts.
P.S. Remember to change the pillowcases twice a week!
Follow all skincare trends
The advent of beauty-influencers and “skinfluencers” has totally disrupted the market and our consumer habits, raising our awareness of skin care. Unfortunately, skincare trends do not always fit our needs, and sometimes they are even a little strange. Remember when TikTok was full of girls drinking chlorophyll?
I’m sure you also wanted to buy a product just because it was viral. Here, among the skicare mistakes to avoid at all costs is following all the trends we see on social.
Constantly changing products can damage your skin barrier, and mixing too many actives can irritate your skin. Prefer a few quality products and listen to your needs.
